How billing actually works

You pay for characters we translate, not code we read.

We scan the repo for free. You're billed only on text that actually gets translated into a target language.

A character is a character.

1,000 characters is roughly 150 words of English. One string translated into 5 languages counts 5 times, because it's 5 translations.

You're never billed twice for the same string.

Translation memory means unchanged text costs nothing on the next push. Your bill tracks new and changed text, which is why it drops after the first run.

Every limit is visible in the app.

Credit remaining, trial days left, and a plain-English reason if something stops — no silent failures.

After the first run, you're typically billed only on what changed — usually 5–15% of this.

Pricing questions

What counts as a translated character?
Every character of text we translate into a target language. Source code, config and markup we read but don't translate are free. 1,000 characters is roughly 150 English words.
What happens when my €5 credit runs out?
Translations stop and you'll see exactly why, in the app and in the pull request. Add a card to keep going — nothing is deleted and nothing breaks silently.
What happens after the 14-day trial?
Your account stays, your locale files stay in your repo, and translation is limited until you're on a paid plan.
Do I need to give a card to start?
No. €5 of translation credit and no card. The credit is good for 14 days.
Is there a seat charge for my teammates?
No. We don't price on seats. Bring the whole team on any plan.
What's the difference between Indie and Starter?
Indie is a low base fee where all translation is billed as usage, which works out best under occasional use. Starter includes translation volume and works out cheaper once you're shipping regularly.
What's the difference between Starter and Team?
Starter is for one developer shipping their own product. Team is for an organisation where more than one person touches the languages — review, control, and the features that only matter once there's a group. See the table above.
Do I need both globalize.now and an i18n library like i18next?
Yes. globalize.now is infrastructure: it scans repositories, normalizes literals, and emits the locale bundles your process already versions in Git. Runtime libraries such as i18next, next-intl, or react-intl answer how browsers and servers load, pluralize, and swap messages at request time. The two layers stack cleanly—configure the runtime once, let globalize.now continue extracting and syncing on every Git push so collaborators always edit structured locale data instead of fragile JSX. See how globalize.now handles idioms, plurals, and RTL →
Can I use my own translation vendor for review?
Yes. Translations live as locale files in your repo, so any reviewer or agency can work on them in your normal pull-request flow.
What happens to my translations if I stop paying?
They're in your repo. You keep every one of them. Nothing is held hostage in our database.
Do you have SSO or SOC 2?
SSO is on the Team roadmap. SOC 2 is under evaluation and we'll say so plainly rather than imply otherwise. Ask us where we are today.
